Subway: Sub of the Day $6 Footlong, $4 6-Inch

Saturday, October 15, 2011
***Edit - Click here for the current 2016 Subway Sub of the Day post information.

We had Subway for dinner tonight and I noticed a great deal they have on now. Every day of the week has a "Sub of the Day"a $6 footlong and $4 6 inch. Today's deal was the Subway Club, which is normally $8.49 for a footlong, so paying only $6 is pretty sweet.

Since many Subways are franchised, check your local store first to see if they are participating. Image above is from my store (Liberty Village area Toronto).

Monday - Steak and Cheese
Tuesday - Subway Melt
Wednesday - Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki
Thursday - Turkey Breast
Friday - Tuna
Saturday - Subway Club
Sunday - Oven Roasted Chicken Breast

Thank you Mr. Sub for that information. Hard to short the customer when I am watching them make it for me.

Actually it IS just that easy. How many people know the amount of meat they put on the sandwich? They literally could just cut the portion by 10% on special days and most people wouldn't notice and if they just said it was corporate policy most people wouldn't fight for it. Best you could get is controversy over the lack of information on the advertising (false advertising) and even that could be fixed with more clear signs.

In short it's very easy to trick the people.

That said I highly doubt they're doing that. The inevitable controversy over false advertising would be a huge blow.

Not to get racial but I'm in Canada and *redacted*. In the end it's just not worth the effort to get my cheese tessellated.

      Delete
    5. The only ones there that I'm interested in are the chicken ones and in both of those, there is a pre-determined amount of meat that goes on them.

      Delete
  7. @Anonymous - Subways are weird that way, I remember before I moved to Toronto, we used to go to a couple in Kitchener and some wouldn't follow any promotions and others would do everything by the book, it definitely varies store to store.

Since they are franchised (many of then) they are free to make up their own rules and follow whatever deals they want and not others. Sorry you are having a hard time, perhaps try another one nearby?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Yep. It's up to the location. There is a small Subway location in the hospital I work at and they never had the 5 dollar foot longs, even when they were being advertised like crazy. I was glad they jumped on the Sub Of The Day bandwagon...and they've got the Chicken Breast on Sundays :D

    ReplyDelete
  9. I was driving home tonight and heard the ad on the radio for todays $6 foot long sub of the day, steak and cheese. I went out of my way specifically to get this sandwich. The manager at Subway told me he didn't know anything about sub of the day and that the sandwich is $9.50.

The excuse that franchises make their own rules is classic from corporations that are more interested in making profits off of franchise agreements than they are are in customer service. If you are promoting a brand then you should have consistancy across the board.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I go on a Thursday to get a turkey sub. It is supposed to be $4.00 for a 6". I get charged $4.50 + tax. I complained and he then adjusted the price according to the advertisement. If you don't pay attention, you get screwed at Subway.

      Delete
  10. @Anonymous - I totally agree with you. I avoid the locations that do not participate in offers like this.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I agree! this has happened to me numerous times and even the franchises have there own prices aswell insane

    ReplyDelete
  12. at victoria park and st clair they tape up over the signs there prices total rip off!!

  13. I live in Barrie and the location I go to doesn't even like talking about the promo. (Essa and Ferndale)...They told me that some other locations "might" be participating but were unsure of which ones ...Meanwhile, all I hear on the radio is Subway advertising their deal of the day subs...They definitely need some uniformity across the board or they will lose customers.

  14. You'd never see Tim Horton's doing this junk !

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That's because Tim Horton's doesn't need to. They sell a turkey "sandwich" for $4.79 that is less filling than half of a Subway 6 inch sub and people like you flock there to buy it!

      Delete
    2. So true. Could someone please explain to me why people stampede to Tim Horton's when it's really not that exceptional? The coffee is decent - I'll give them that, but the "hearty" fare is overpriced, the doughnuts are woeful (it has to be said), and the queues are always ridiculous.

      I'll never understand it!!

  16. My husband had problems with some GTA areas where they didn't accept his gift cards. The franchise store sold the cards, but later at the very same franchise they wouldn't accept them.
Last weekend I quickly searched online to find the daily deal & couldn't find it. I went anyway, but while standing in line I looked everywhere for a sign or poster listing the deals but there wasn't one. I had to ask & the manager told me.
They want the good advertising but don't want to back it up with the price. Franchisees shouldn't have a choice about whether to follow corporate advertising.

  17. Even in so called third world countries customers have more self respect but north american customers are getting cheap day by day. Whay this all complaints, if you can afford the price you buy it otherwise never go to that place. But in my view any customer has no right to ask about why that price? So north american customers have some self respect and don't be so cheap when it comes to food.

    2. why are you on a "deals" website if you're not "cheap" and looking for deals??

      Delete
    3. People ... you must realize that the commercials are paid for by Corporate ... Not all locations will honor the deals because they do not have to. The locations that do, only do so because they realize that the promotions will cause more people to flock to their location versus a different one. Other locations that perhaps do not get as much foot traffic do not offer these deals because they are already struggling to get by. Grow up. And if a location does not honor a promotion ... go to a different location that does.

      Delete
    4. Anyone suspect this guy is a franchise owner?

If I might try to explain, it's not about disrespecting the price. It's about companies respecting the ad. I agree that as a customer it's not right to ask why X sub costs $9.50 (for the most part) but when the company rule is that every Tuesday the Melt is $6/footlong and I walk into a Subway and it's not $6 I think I have a right to inquiry. We're not trying to debate the sales. We're debating sales that are advertised but not evident.

  50. The cost of food and gas have increased drastically, I wonder if that eliminated some of the subs being on the featured menu. In regards to there being different guidlines in diff stores, you should call head office. The reason people frequent franchises is to receive the same product regardless of your region. Everytime I hit a mcdonalds in the world anywhere tastes the same. To ensure I dont get ripped I ask what the sub of the day is, if they say none i jet.

  64. Why is it that certain locations have the sub of the day promotions, while others do not. We have a Subway at the RVH hospital in Barrie Ont., that a lot of people work at, and eat at, on a daily basis (including myself). At one time when they first opened they had "daily specials." New owners took over the franchise and immediately got rid of the sign and say they do not offer the daily specials at their location. WHY !!!!!!??????? I know personally that there are alot of staff, never mind visitors and volunteers, that are not too darned impressed by this change. How is it they can just decide to no longer offer this,to us.
