Cineplex Odeon: Mystery Shopping Club $50 Enrollment Plus $120 Of Admission and Concession Offers

Saturday, January 01, 2011
Attention movie-goers, Cineplex Odeon has a Mystery Shopping Club, an exclusive group of guests who evaluate their theatres. There is an annual membership fee of $50 (plus tax) which will provide you with two movie passes for admission and $10 in gift cards for concession purchases at least four times a year (over $120 value). Once you join, the Guest Services department will contact you to advice of theatre availability and the membership enrollment process. You must be 18 years of age or older to participate. If you frequent the theatre often, this may be something that would interest you, personally I think it's odd that they are charging you to evaluate their theatres.

  1. Other companies pay their mystery shoppers to do their quality-control work for them. Cineplex Odeon has its mystery shoppers offset the cost of the seats they use while "evaluating" their movie-going experience. Why not just use audience comment cards instead? (That way, they'll get full price for the seats.)

As a "club bargain," it looks like a deal, but the Mystery Shopper designation is an insult and makes the whole thing look (I said "look") scammish. Bad move, Cineplex Odeon.
