Blockbuster Canada: Clearance Begins Closing 146 Stores

Blockbuster Canada is sadly not doing well and is forced to close 146 stores across Canada. In the US, stores have been steadily closing so now it's happening here too. They will begin liquidating their stock in the coming week so stay tuned for a major clearance sale at stores near you, stores will be closed by the end of June. Also note that gift cards will not be accepted at any location that is set to close!

I thought the image above was funny, it's true, the market changes, people aren't visiting rental stores to get movies anymore, they are going online and downloading them through services like Netflix. I personally don't even have cable, I get all my tv shows online.

For a limited time Blockbuster is offering to make your movie rental a combo for only $2. With any rental or in-store purchase you can add a Blockbuster Popcorn bag and 710ml Pepsi product for only an extra $2. I can't remember the last time that I rented a movie, we just download everything, but I know food can be expensive, so it's nice that they've added this promotion.

Do you rent anything other than New Releases at Blockbuster? Then this may be a deal for you, Blockbuster is offering a monthly special of $9.99 where you can rent out unlimited numbers of "favourite movie rentals" with no due dates or late fees. I call this as "un-deal" however as I don't think I have EVER rented anything other than a new release at Blockbluster, so this deal is totally cold, but in any case, if this is something that interests you... there you have it.
